Sergei Parajanov House-Museum

The museum archives include the director’s correspondence: letters addressed to Lili Brik, A. Tarkovsky, Y. Nikulin, V. Katanyan, and other cultural figures.

The museum displays around 700 works of art. Two memorial rooms recreate parts of Parajanov’s apartment in Tbilisi (Georgia).

Parajanov’s art has no analogues in world culture. It is distinguished by high craftsmanship, vivid imagination, and ingenuity. The variety of materials used in his works gives them special charm and brilliance. Most of these works were created in prison.

By order of the Soviet authorities, Parajanov was banned from filmmaking for 15 years, of which he spent 1974–1978 and 1982–1982 in high-security camps and prisons.

The museum reflects the artistic and demonstrative principles of Sergei Parajanov’s work. Over nearly 20 years of its existence, the museum has organized 56 exhibitions, including in Cannes, Thessaloniki, Moscow, Kyiv, Rome, London, Los Angeles, Tehran, Beijing, and Paris, among others.
