Tsaghkadzor – Lake Sevan – Dilijan
We offer you a tour to Tsaghkadzor, Lake Sevan, Dilijan, and the Haghartsin Monastery.
Tsaghkadzor is a popular ski and mountain resort in Armenia. The air here is truly healing, and the natural beauty of the area is breathtaking in every season. By taking the ropeway to the top, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the picturesque slopes of Mount Teghenis. From altitudes ranging between 1,000 and 2,800 meters, the whole of Armenia seems to unfold before your eyes — the turquoise Lake Sevan and the majestic Mount Ararat. We’ll also visit the medieval Kecharis Monastery Complex (11th–13th centuries), also known as “Birch Grove.” The complex consists of three churches and a nearby small Church of the Resurrection.
Then we’ll head northeast to Lake Sevan — the Blue Pearl of Armenia — located 70 kilometers from Yerevan. Sevan is one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world, sitting at 1,900 meters above sea level.
About 25 km from Sevan is our next stop —Dilijan. Located in the northeastern part of Armenia, Dilijan lies in a forested zone separated from the rest of the country by the Pambak mountain range, which is crossed through a tunnel. Once we pass through the tunnel, we enter a completely different world, sharply contrasting with everything we saw on the way here. The town is nestled at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level, in a gorge flanked by both banks of the Aghstev River. Dilijan is a renowned balneological resort with mineral springs and fresh air filled with the scent of flowers. Here, we will visit the ethnographic district that recreates the charm of Old Dilijan and may even take part in a pottery workshop with a local artisan.
The Haghartsin Monastery, built between the 10th and 13th centuries using white travertine stone. The road leading to the monastery is exceptionally scenic — a narrow ribbon of asphalt winding through dense forests. The monastery was founded in the Middle Ages by by the royal Bagratuni dynasty. Within the complex, there is a preserved tomb where Kings Smbat and Gagik of the Bagratuni dynasty are buried.
