Hydrotherapy

Initial reactions to these effects occur in the skin and are then transformed into responses of various body systems, primarily the thermoregulatory, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems.

Hydrotherapy is the use of water for therapeutic and preventive purposes.

Traditionally, hydrotherapy includes hydropathy and balneotherapy.

Hydropathy is based on the use of plain water for therapeutic purposes

Mechanism of action:

• Mechanical

• Thermal

• Reflexive

Thanks to the mechanical and thermal effects on the body, a full-body massage is performed using water under pressure of up to 4 atm. As a result, the elasticity and tone of blood vessels are normalized, lymphatic and blood circulation improve, which in turn enhances metabolism and increases overall muscle tone. It also has a positive effect on the removal of cellulite and infected epidermal cells. By acting on reflexogenic zones, it helps regulate the functional state of the autonomic nervous system.

Hydrotherapy procedures:

  • hydromassage baths
  • Charcot shower
  • contrast shower
  • underwater jet massage
  • circular shower

Underwater massage is performed in a bath and resembles simple bathing, but a stream of water is applied under pressure (up to 4 atm), which provides the effect of mechanical massage by acting on reflexogenic zones. It is indicated for post-traumatic conditions, various musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders, cellulite, and during post-stroke rehabilitation.

Upward shower is indicated for pelvic disorders such as hemorrhoids, prostatitis, impotence, gynecological conditions, and rectal stones.

Circular shower is indicated for functional disorders of the nervous system such as asthenia and depression, skin diseases accompanied by itching, and metabolic disorders.

Charcot shower is prescribed for functional disorders of the nervous system and obesity. Scottish shower is performed by alternating hot and cold water (15°C–45°C). It is recommended for polyneuritis, hypotensive disease, neurasthenia, and muscle atrophy.
