Sagmosavank
Above the abyss of the gorge of the Kasakh River, the ancient Armenian temple and monastery of Saghmosavank sheltered. According to legend, Saghmosavank (translated from Armenian as “Monastery of Psalms”) was founded by St. Gregory the Illuminator 17 centuries ago. The oldest temple of the monastery - Surb Sion was erected by the local Armenian prince Vache Vachutyan in 1215. On the western and southern sides, the temple was built with a vast vestibule (1250) and a book depository (1255), which was attached to the small church of Astvatsatsin (1235). The book depository of Saghmosavank is one of the rather rare and original buildings in Armenia in terms of purpose.
