Noravanq
Noravank Monastery is located among the bizarre sheer red rocks on the ledge of the winding gorge of the Amagu River near the city of Yeghegnadzor.
Noravank was founded in 1205 by Bishop Hovhannes. The monastery complex includes the Church of Surb Karapet, the chapel of Surb Grigor with a vaulted hall and the Church of Surb Astvatsatsin. Noravank was also the residence of the Armenian princes Orbelians. The complex consists of the church of St. Karapet (1216-1221), in the northern part - the church of St. Gregory (1275) and, separately standing in the eastern part, the church of the Holy Virgin (1339), the western facade of which is distinguished by its uniqueness : a narrow staircase, in the shape of a pyramid, leading to the second floor.
