Amberd is the largest Armenian fortress. It is located in the province of Aragatsotn (at the confluence of the Arkashen and Amberd rivers), at an altitude of more than 2000 meters.

Having come down to us in a dilapidated state, the fortress still personifies the indomitable spirit of those times when it performed defensive functions that seemed incredible then. Amberd Fortress is not the most popular attraction in Armenia, but it can be safely called the pearl of the medieval architecture of the Caucasus!
